Non-league goalkeeper George Desmond Kamurasi has been selected as the successor to the King of Tooro in Uganda, yet reports indicate he may turn down the role.
Kamurasi, known by the nickname 'Big G', plays for SE Dons in the ninth tier of English football. He previously appeared on Soccer AM, regularly deputising in goal for the Car Park Challenge segment before the programme was cancelled.
Beyond his football commitments, Kamurasi has royal heritage, with his cousin having led the Tooro people in Uganda. Following the relative's passing, Kamurasi has been chosen as the heir to King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, provided he agrees to relocate.
Selection and family ties
Kamurasi's cousin ascended to the throne at the age of three but died aged 36. According to The Telegraph, citing Ugandan media sources, a 21-member committee selected the footballer as his replacement.
However, reports suggest Kamurasi has no intention of moving to the African nation. SE Dons, where he plays and serves as captain, announced in July that his services have been secured for the 2026/27 campaign.
The footballer married Abbey in July, and the couple have a son. Reports from Uganda indicate he plans to remain in Britain rather than relocate to begin a new chapter as a monarch.
Club success and recent absence
SE Dons, based in Bexleyheath in outer London, secured promotion to the ninth-tier Southern Counties East Premier Division last season. The club has also progressed through three preliminary rounds of the FA Cup, earning a second qualifying round tie against Chichester City.
Their most recent cup victory came against Erith, whom they defeated 2-0, with Josh Bohui, a product of Manchester United's youth academy, netting the opening goal in a dominant early display.
Kamurasi was absent from that fixture because his cousin's funeral was held in Uganda the same weekend. King Rukidi IV became the world's youngest monarch upon ascending to the throne as a child, and was honoured by Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja as a "symbol of unity."
