Netflix announces second Bridgerton spin-off focusing on Lady Violet
Netflix confirms second Bridgerton spin-off on Lady Violet

Netflix has confirmed a second spin-off of the hit period drama Bridgerton is in development, this time centring on the 'beloved' matriarch Lady Violet. The upcoming miniseries, currently titled Untitled Bridgerton Project, will follow the format of the successful Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Early life and romance to be explored

The series will be produced in partnership with Shondaland, the production company founded by executive producer Shonda Rhimes. According to Netflix's official announcement, the show will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.

Bridgerton viewers have previously seen a glimpse of Lady Violet's marriage to Edmund, played by Rupert Evans, in the second season. That storyline poignantly depicted his sudden death from a bee sting, leaving Lady Violet grieving while their son Anthony Bridgerton took on the responsibility of managing the family estate.

Character background and future episodes

Lady Violet, portrayed by Ruth Gemmell in the main series, has often referenced her happy marriage with Edmund when offering advice to her children about their turbulent love lives. In the most recent fourth season, Lady Violet pursued a new romance with Marcus Anderson, played by Daniel Francis.

In a notable scene from the Queen Charlotte spin-off, Lady Violet confided in Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh, that she still had needs and was ready to explore a sexual relationship with someone else.

It has not yet been confirmed whether Rupert Evans will reprise his role as Edmund in the spin-off. The production will likely cast two younger actors to portray the lovers in the early stages of their relationship, as was done with Queen Charlotte.
