Zara and Mike Tindall are celebrating 15 years of marriage today, having tied the knot on July 30, 2011. Their wedding took place in Scotland, just three months after Prince William and Princess Catherine's wedding in London.
Mike Tindall proposed to Zara in 2010 at their home while she was "watching television downstairs," according to Mike. He told the Daily Mail: "It was all about shock value. I wanted to catch her when it was quiet, and she wasn't expecting anything."
An unconventional proposal
The former rugby professional revealed that he simply walked into the room and got down on one knee. Speaking about the proposal, he added: "She started laughing. She was in complete shock. Then, when she stopped laughing, she said yes. That was a relief."
Mike admitted he had been planning the proposal for a while, but that other family members beat him to it. "My brother got engaged, and so did a certain Duke of Cambridge," Mike said. "I thought I'd better get on with it."
Wedding and family
The couple wed at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, with the reception held at the late Queen's official Scottish residence, Holyrood Palace. Their engagement was publicly revealed in December 2010.
Zara and Mike have three children: daughter Mia, born in January 2014; daughter Lena, born in 2018; and son Lucas, born in 2021.
