Meghan Markle knew her American dream was over the moment she was exposed by Hollywood heavyweight Martha Stewart, according to Fox News commentator Kennedy – real name Lisa Kennedy Montgomery.
Kennedy said Martha speaking out against the Duchess of Sussex after a glitzy US dinner party, and claiming she was gossiping about a hush-hush meeting with King Charles at Highgrove, was the final nail in the coffin.
Martha Stewart's dinner party claims
Speaking to People magazine earlier this month, Martha explained: "We were both guests at a dinner party in California. She had just gotten back from the palace. I didn't talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it."
According to Kennedy, not only was this a "big no-no" because the King and Queen wanted to keep it quiet, but because Martha snubbed Meghan at the party.
Kennedy's assessment of Meghan's career
Kennedy wrote in her Daily Mail column: "The boss b***h of interior design was also shooting some subtly sharpened barbs in Meg's direction."
Martha had said of Meghan's TV career: "If you're an actress, it's hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn't sort of follow. So go from there."
Kennedy also cited Meghan's rejection by Oprah Winfrey as a sign it was time to get out of Dodge.
Sussexes' return to the UK
She said: "Mean Martha is right, folks. There's nowhere to go from here. The Sussexes' Netflix deal dried up. The podcasts evaporated. The jam couldn't sell itself.
"It turns out scorched-earth biographies and tell-all interviews have diminishing returns; and while Harry's memoir Spare and Meg's Oprah interview might've caused a momentary splash, no one cares anymore. Even [Oprah] The Queen of Talk has turned away."
Kennedy quipped that Meghan's "coach has turned into a pumpkin", prompting her move back to the UK with her husband Prince Harry, which was announced earlier this week.
