The Duke and Duchess of Sussex landed in the UK on Wednesday with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to set up home in the country. The move comes after the family spent the last six years living in Montecito, California, following Harry and Meghan's decision to quit royal duty in 2020.
Mixed emotions over return
Speaking to Cafe Casino, brand and culture expert Nick Ede, a former friend of Meghan, said: "I imagine Meghan would approach it with very mixed emotions. Britain was the setting for her wedding and one of the most extraordinary chapters of her life, but it is also associated with intense scrutiny, negative headlines and a period she has described as deeply painful."
Ede added: "She would not be arriving as a new royal expected to learn an unfamiliar system; she would be coming back as an independent woman with her own businesses, profile and boundaries. That could make the experience feel much more manageable."
New UK base
While the family are keeping their Montecito mansion, it is believed they are set to have the UK as their main base, with their children already enrolled in a British school. The location of their non-royal UK home, which is outside of London, has not been disclosed.
It is not known why the couple have decided to give life in Britain another go, however rumours have been swirling that Meghan has been offered a UK-based acting role. Other reports claim that the move is simply because Harry wants to be closer to his father King Charles, and wants his children to be educated in the UK.
No official statement
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not released any official statement or comment about their move, which saw them arrive in Britain on a private jet yesterday. King Charles was told about the move earlier this month, and is believed to be pleased the family will be closer to him.
