Meghan Markle's Instagram posts since returning to the UK show a subtle sign of defiance, according to royal expert Jennie Bond. The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have spent their first month back in Britain after leaving their home in Montecito, California.
Defiance in social media posts
Speaking to New Magazine, Bond said: "I think there is some defiance in her posts." She added: "Now she is no longer part of The Firm, I think she feels free to say what she likes... and what she likes is to give us glimpses of her happy family life and loving marriage."
Meghan regularly shares images of her life with Prince Harry and their children on Instagram, where she has 4.9 million followers. She has posted rare glimpses into the lives of seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, though their faces are often obscured in photos.
Life in the Cotswolds
The couple are reportedly living in the Cotswolds, choosing a non-royal residence outside London. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been enrolled in British schools.
The Sussexes quit their royal roles in 2020, two years after Meghan married Prince Harry in 2018. King Charles was reportedly made aware of the family's move in August, before they returned towards the end of the month. It is understood he welcomes the opportunity to see more of the family in both a private and personal capacity.
Non-working royal status confirmed
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's status as non-working royals remains unchanged. A spokesperson for the couple said they were surprised by a letter sent by King Charles III clarifying their status, with the spokesperson saying they "were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance" according to BBC reports.
