Meghan Markle is deliberately staying out of the spotlight since returning to the UK, according to an insider, who claims the strategy is designed to build anticipation rather than being solely about looking after her children.
The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry moved back to the UK at the end of August after six years in California. The family, including Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, settled into a private property in the Cotswolds along with their dogs, Mia and Pula.
Deliberate strategy to create interest
While Harry has attended public engagements such as the Invictus Spirit Awards and The WellChild Awards, Meghan has remained quiet. Although it was previously reported she was prioritising the children, an insider has now revealed the "true reason" behind her self-effacement.
As reported by Closer Online, the insider claimed: "Meghan was advised a while ago to be less accessible because it creates more interest, so that’s the strategy she’s leaning into. She is deliberately biding her time and staying out of sight intentionally, but she’s also got plenty of things keeping her busy."
Building anticipation for her return
The insider added: "Between unpacking, getting the kids settled into their new routine and keeping her brand and all her other projects moving, she’s going from morning until late at night."
"When she does start stepping out more, the hope is that she’ll have built up enough anticipation that people will be excited to see her, rather than having her everywhere right away and the public getting sick of her."
Meghan made her first casual public appearance since returning at The Falkland Arms pub in the Cotswolds on October 1, holding hands with Harry. She then made her first London appearance on Wednesday, October 7, having afternoon tea with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai at Claridge's hotel in Mayfair.
Different approaches on UK return
Harry, meanwhile, has also travelled to Canada and New York for engagements. The source added: "Meghan is very competitive, she loves taking on a challenge, and she’s coming back to the U.K. with the mindset that she can turn things around and win people over."
"She’s heard all the predictions that she’ll never be welcomed in England again, but she’s refusing to just roll over and accept that as the truth. There was a time when all the hostility she’s facing across the pond would have taken her down, but she’s stronger than she was six years ago, and she’s insisting that she’s ready to stand up and fight back."
The insider continued: "Harry understands why she wants to wait, but he’s convinced she’s worrying for nothing, that once she gets out there she’ll get a fantastic reception and could easily generate the same kind of excitement Kate does."
