Meghan Markle's Father Stable After Emergency Surgery

The father of the Duchess of Sussex, Thomas Markle, is in a stable condition after being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery in the Philippines.

Health Crisis and Emergency Operation

Thomas Markle Sr., 81, was taken to hospital on Tuesday after becoming seriously ill at his home on the island of Cebu. The former TV lighting director underwent a three-hour emergency operation and was admitted to intensive care.

His son, Tom Markle Jr., 59, provided a key update on his father's condition last night. "I went to see Dad today. He is heavily medicated on painkillers and other drugs. He is hooked up to all kinds of machines. He's pretty much out of it," he said. "The doctors say he is stable, which is good news. He is a brave man and a fighter."

Long Road to Recovery and Family Appeals

It is understood the Emmy award-winner now faces another procedure to remove a blood clot, with a significant recovery journey ahead. His daughter Samantha, 61, stated: "We are all hoping and praying that Dad pulls through. He has a long journey of recovery ahead of him."

The family has expressed profound gratitude for the global wave of support. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Tom Jr. continued: "The whole family is grateful for the outpouring of love and well-wishes from people around the globe, particularly from Britain." "We thank everyone for their support and ask that you keep sending positive thoughts for Dad's recovery."

Estrangement and Life in Cebu

The health crisis unfolds against the backdrop of a fractured relationship between Thomas Markle and his daughter, Meghan. The pair became estranged in 2018, following her marriage to Prince Harry. The pensioner has lived in a £500-a-month high-rise flat in Cebu, over 7,000 miles from the Sussexes in Los Angeles, and has never met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.

Tom Jr. revealed that the family has received no communication from Meghan and Harry since his father's hospital admission, adding: "I would implore Meghan and Harry to reach out to Dad." The Sussexes have not commented publicly on the situation.

Thomas Markle Sr., who was born in Newport, Pennsylvania, has suffered two heart attacks and a stroke in recent years. Despite his health struggles, he relocated to Cebu, where summer temperatures can reach 33C with nearly 90% humidity. He was recently seen using a walking stick to navigate the area's challenging roads and paths.
