Meghan Markle has received a plea from a former friend, Nick Ede, who urged her to mend ties with her estranged father, Thomas Markle Snr, amid his ongoing health struggles. Ede, a TV presenter, spoke to the Express US on behalf of Cafe Casino and suggested that while Meghan's relationship with King Charles and Queen Camilla might improve, he doubts a similar reconciliation with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Former Friend's Appeal
Nick Ede, who described his past friendship with Meghan as "full of laughter and joy," implored her to extend an olive branch to her father. "I think with the King and Queen, there will be a relationship, as it’s very important for them to have a relationship with their grandchildren," he said. "I don’t think William and Kate will feel the same way. I think Meghan should look at her own father, too, and give an olive branch to that relationship before it’s too late."
Ede first met Meghan while organizing a charity gala, where she was hired as host. He called her "the perfect person to do the job."
Thomas Markle Snr's Health
Thomas Markle Snr, who is estranged from the Duchess of Sussex, underwent a three-hour surgery in December 2025 to amputate his left leg below the knee after a blood clot cut off circulation. He had moved to the Philippines earlier that year but returned to the US for a prosthetic limb. Meghan has not spoken to him since he reportedly suffered two heart attacks on the eve of her 2018 wedding. However, a representative for Meghan said she "reached out" after his operation.
Thomas Snr has repeatedly called for contact, saying he wants to see her "one more time" before he dies. Speaking to the Daily Mail after his amputation, he admitted, "Of course I want to speak to her but I am not sure if these are the right circumstances." He added, "I’ve always said I am open to reconciling with my daughter. I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband, too."
Thomas Snr has never met Prince Harry, whom Meghan married eight years ago, nor his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
