Meghan Markle has been accused of throwing a cup of tea into the air during a tense incident with palace staff, according to a new royal biography. The claim appears in Tom Bower's book Revenge, which alleges that the Duchess of Sussex behaved 'abrasively' towards aides and diplomats during the couple's 2018 tour of Australia.
Bower writes that Meghan's anger may have been partly fuelled by Prince Harry, who reportedly spent evenings trawling social media for negative comments. The author describes the mood among staff as 'miserable' during the Sussexes' time as working royals. Lawyers for Meghan have repeatedly denied allegations that she bullied palace staff.
In a separate book, Yes Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, author Tom Quinn quotes a former staff member as saying Meghan thought senior royals 'behaved like babies' over protocol and hierarchy. The Duchess reportedly found many royal rules pointless and was frustrated by the sensitivity of senior family members over perks such as pens or cars.
Meghan and Harry discussed her introduction to royal life in their Netflix docuseries, where Meghan admitted she did not know how to curtsy before meeting the late Queen. She recreated a deep curtsy for the cameras, drawing criticism from some viewers who deemed it disrespectful.
