The couple, who stepped down as senior working royals nearly three years ago, have updated the homepage of their Archewell foundation website with new photos from recent charity visits to the UK and Germany, alongside the quote: 'Each of us can change our communities. All of us can change the world.'
The front page makes no mention of the royal family, their former roles, or the late Queen Elizabeth II. Levin told The Sun that this change sends a message that the couple do not need the royals. 'I think that's saying very much that they can do without the royal family, they don't need them, they're fine where they are, they're building another community,' she said.
The couple were in the UK for charity visits when the Queen died on September 8, and they reunited with royal relatives for her funeral. In a recent interview with Variety, Meghan described the period as 'a complicated time' and reflected on her relationship with the Queen. She also made a remark about 'expectations' for her children, Archie and Lilibet, saying they are 'part of a legacy and a tradition and a family that will have other expectations'.
Levin interpreted the website changes as a statement of independence, but added that the couple 'actually can't' do without the royal family. The update comes as Harry and Meghan continue to build their new life in California, focusing on their charitable work through Archewell.
