Feminist writer Germaine Greer predicted in an interview two months before the royal wedding that Meghan Markle would 'bolt' back to the United States, potentially taking Prince Harry with her, according to a recent revelation by royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith.
Speaking to 60 Minutes Australia in April 2018, Greer said: 'She will see vistas of boredom that are unbelievable. I think the pressure to escape from the firm is crushing.' Greer cited Meghan's short-lived marriage to Trevor Engelson as evidence of her tendency to 'bolt'.
The late Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Lady Elizabeth Anson, had also expressed doubts days before the wedding, reportedly saying: 'We hope but don't quite think she is in love. We think she engineered it all.' Lady Elizabeth noted that Meghan appeared 'full of charm' initially but became increasingly 'bossy' as the wedding approached, and that the Queen was privately 'very worried'.
After the couple stepped down as working royals, Greer made another prediction, suggesting they might 'slide into complete obscurity'. The couple have since faced challenges, with Meghan struggling to book high-profile guests for her show 'With Love, Meghan', and Harry yet to establish a television personality.
