Meghan Markle is reportedly experiencing severe homesickness following her return to the UK, with a source claiming she would go back to California immediately if she could, but that doing so would be seen as an admission of failure.
The Duchess and her husband moved back to the UK in August, a decision that surprised both supporters and critics. Since their return, the couple have kept a relatively low profile, but their time in the UK has not been without drama. They recently removed their children from school amid security concerns, while the King's statement about their royal status is understood to have caused some upset.
Struggling to Adjust
Sources close to the couple have said they are enjoying their time in the UK, but others have suggested it is not going as well as hoped. A source told Closer that Meghan is feeling "very homesick" and that she "misses her mom".
"It's no secret Meghan agreed to this move to make Harry happy, but it's already turning out to be way harder than even she anticipated," the source said. "She is very homesick, she misses her mom, her friends, the beach - even her chickens."
"She has a lot more freedom in California, too. She can jump in the car to go shopping or meet someone for lunch without thinking too much about it, whereas she's much more nervous about being out in public in England, so there's a real sense of isolation."
Financial and Family Pressures
The source added that there is financial stress and an "overwhelming amount on her plate". Despite her feelings, going back to California now would look like an "admission of failure".
"If she could go back home tomorrow, she would, but that's just not in the cards; even a quick business trip would be seen as an admission of failure," they said. "Plus, the kids need to get settled in. That's where she's mainly focused right now, and she does feel she needs to support Harry while he sorts everything out with his family. The tension on that end is just as bad as ever, apart from Charles at least, and she's shouldering that right along with him."
The source said Harry is trying to get Meghan excited about things they can enjoy in Britain with the children, and that he is "genuinely thrilled" to be back in his home country.
