Meghan Markle: 'Best job in the world' is being a mum

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first joint public appearance since returning to the UK, greeting crowds outside the Community Recording Studio in St Ann’s, Nottingham, on Thursday, October 15. During the visit, Meghan Markle told well-wishers she has the "best job in the world" – and it is not related to acting or business.

After getting out of their vehicle, the couple arrived to cheers from the crowd. They stopped to speak to children from a local nursery before moving on to other well-wishers, spending around 25 minutes meeting the public, shaking hands and posing for pictures before entering the studio.

Meghan's admission to crowds

A video taken by someone in the crowd showed Meghan interacting with two young boys at the front. During the chat, she said: "I'm a mum. Best job in the world." She smiled at the boys and affectionately poked one of them as she made the admission.

The visit follows Harry's long history with the Community Recording Studio (CRS), dating back to 2013. The organisation was first established to give young people access to music and recording facilities, and now offers a broader range of creative activities, sport, mentoring and youth development.

Decade of engagement

Harry continued supporting the charity for several years and visited the studio in September 2025, when he was in the UK for events including the annual WellChild Awards. At the time, he made a £1.1 million donation to BBC Children in Need, which is being used in CRS's redevelopment. The couple's visit highlights more than a decade of engagement with the Nottingham community.

The pair will also visit Himmah Hub, a food poverty community action group. There, Meghan is set to reunite with women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire, with whom she collaborated on a 2018 charity cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook.

Return to the UK

The Duke and Duchess, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, relocated to Britain in late August after spending six years in California. Since their return, Harry has been spotted at several events, while Meghan has remained under the radar.

Just after their arrival, a letter sent on the King's instruction insisted that Harry and Meghan should be viewed as "private citizens" on their return to the UK, which "surprised" the Sussexes. Despite the letter, Harry has undertaken engagements in recent weeks, including attending the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London and the United for Freedom gala to raise money for organisations supporting Ukraine.
