Prince Harry did not exchange strong words with the Queen over Meghan Markle's wedding tiara, sources have insisted. A source close to the Duke of Sussex has slammed claims that he asked the Queen 'what the hell is going on' during a phone call prior to his wedding day, calling the allegations 'completely ridiculous'.
The claims emerged from an interview with Omid Scobie, co-author of the biography Finding Freedom, who alleged that Prince Harry made an exasperated call to his grandmother following a dispute with Her Majesty's dresser Angela Kelly. Scobie said Harry told the Queen: 'I don't know what the hell is going on, but this woman needs to make this work for my future wife.'
However, a source close to Prince Harry has refuted the account, telling The Telegraph: 'The Queen is probably the person he respects and values most in the world.' They added that the suggestion the Duke 'yelled' at his grandmother was 'totally untrue, and completely ridiculous'.
The so-called 'tiaragate' row centred on Meghan's request to try on the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara before the royal wedding in May 2018. According to Finding Freedom, Harry believed Angela Kelly was 'purposefully ignoring Meghan' and that the couple faced resistance from Palace aides.
The biography states that Harry confronted Kelly in a 'heated exchange' and eventually spoke to the Queen, who granted Meghan the trial. A senior Palace aide said the Duke was being 'oversensitive', but a source close to Harry insisted he believed 'some of the old guard at the Palace simply didn't like Meghan and would stop at nothing to make her life difficult'.
