Mark Chapman is rumoured to be dating fellow BBC presenter Kelly Cates, with whom he co-hosts Match of the Day. The 52-year-old broadcaster has long been a fixture on British television and radio, best known for hosting Match of the Day 2 and stepping up as co-lead presenter on the flagship show alongside Cates and Gabby Logan.

This week, however, Chapman has been making headlines for reasons away from sport. He is rumoured to be in a relationship with Cates following his separation from former girlfriend Clere Collier.

Wife's death and dating history

Chapman was married to his wife, Sara, for almost two decades, and the couple shared three children. Sara tragically died following a battle with cancer in 2020.

Three years after his bereavement, Chapman began a relationship with Dubai-based property specialist Clere Collier. The romance appeared to be going well, with the couple photographed viewing properties together in Altrincham. However, the pair parted ways in April 2026.

Chapman and Cates are believed to have started dating earlier this year. Cates, daughter of Liverpool and Scotland icon Kenny Dalglish, ended her marriage to TV producer husband Tom five years ago. The couple wed in 2007 and have two daughters together.

Cates, who also broadcasts for Sky Sports, has previously appeared on Logan's podcast, The Mid Point, where she discussed the challenges of dating after her 2021 divorce. "The thought of going on a date, spending an evening with someone and at the end of it thinking, 'Well, I don't really like you', I would be so resentful of them taking up my time," she said.

"Obviously it's vice versa, too, but I'm not really bothered about it from their perspective, bearing in mind I don't get to see the people I do like very often." She added: "I've got no real kind of thoughts about long-term relationships or anything like that. Imagine going out with somebody and you sit there half way through and think, 'God, this guy is an idiot.'"

Charitable work and stunts

Outside broadcasting and personal affairs, Chapman has repeatedly tested himself physically to raise donations for worthy causes. In 2008, he joined Radio 1 colleague David 'Comedy Dave' Vitty for a marathon effort, completing a mile at each of the 20 Premier League and 12 Scottish Premier League grounds.

That same year, he took on the London Marathon for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent, a challenge he completed again in 2010. In 2012, Chapman joined a cycling team to conquer the 874-mile route from Land's End to John o' Groats, raising funds for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust in Stoke-on-Trent.
