King Charles will want to see Meghan Markle on her upcoming UK visit as they were once “extremely close”, a former royal butler has said. Grant Harrold, who worked for the King from 2004 until 2011, when he was the Prince of Wales, said that the monarch and his daughter-in-law once had a very strong bond.
Former Butler Reveals Past Closeness
It is believed they had a lot in common, with the pair often looking happy in one another’s company when Meghan was a working royal. The King even walked The Duchess of Sussex down the aisle on her 2018 wedding day to Prince Harry. It is not known whether Meghan and the King still have a relationship, as Meghan has not set foot in the UK since 2022.
Regardless, Harrold thinks the King will want to see Meghan, with the pair having “a lot of respect” for each other. Speaking to AceOdds, the former royal butler said: “While we know the King and Harry have met since the infamous fallout, the introduction of Meghan will change the dynamic. Charles and Meghan were extremely close, and I like to think they may have kept in communication during the years they’ve been apart.”
Potential Emotional Reunion
Harrold added: “If it happens, I think it will be a very special and emotional reunion. They have a lot in common and a lot of respect for each other, so I imagine they will both want to reconnect.” Not only will next month mark Meghan’s first UK visit since 2022 - which happened over two years after they quit royal life - but it will also be the first time in four years that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have visited the UK.
This is because Prince Harry usually makes the journey across the pond alone, having previously said that he feels like the UK is too unsafe for his wife and children. It is believed he no longer feels this way, with rumours swirling that the family have been offered the chance to stay in a royal residence during their trip, which is centred on the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games 2027. It is not known which royals, including Harry and Meghan and their children, could see on this trip.
