King Charles has visited the Manchester synagogue where two people were killed in a terror attack on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The visit was his first official appearance since Prince Andrew relinquished his titles amid the ongoing Epstein scandal.
The King was greeted by Rabbi Daniel Walker at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, just metres from where Jihad Al-Shaer, 35, launched his attack on 2 October. Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, died in the incident. Mr Daulby is believed to have been inadvertently shot by armed police responding to the scene.
Charles spent several minutes at an outdoor memorial near the synagogue, where flowers and tributes have been left. The visit underscores his support for the Jewish community following the attack, which saw worshippers targeted on the most sacred day of the year.
The monarch’s appearance comes as Prince Andrew faces intense scrutiny after giving up his duke titles and royal patronages on Friday, following allegations of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre. The Metropolitan Police are also examining claims that Andrew passed Ms Giuffre’s personal details to his bodyguard for investigation.
