King Charles urged to 'act' after Harry and Meghan's 'ridiculous' outing
King Charles urged to 'act' after Harry and Meghan's outing

Royal fans have urged King Charles to “act” after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent public appearances in Nottingham, which have left the Palace reportedly displeased.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent an away day in the city in what largely resembled engagements from when they were working royals. They were welcomed to the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in St Ann’s, Nottingham, with all the fanfare, for a run of three quasi-royal public appearances in the city on Thursday.

Private citizens, public appearances

The high-profile events were not official royal engagements – with a letter to Government stakeholders, authorised by the King last month, clarifying that the Sussexes remain “private citizens” – but they appeared to bear all the hallmarks of such engagements.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Sussexes said the decision taken at the Sandringham summit was “foisted upon” them, a move that has reportedly “infuriated” others. The Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English, said the latest developments have left the Palace displeased.

Palace 'irritated' but determined

She said: “There's no doubt that the Royal Household is irritated and is likely to be even more so when it reads an inflammatory briefing by a friend of the couple to Hello! yesterday that the Sandringham Agreement was 'foisted' upon them – and that they never actually agreed to anything. Which many feel tells you a great deal about their current thinking.

“But the Palace is absolutely determined not to be stung into reacting.”

Fans call for action

Now, fans have expressed their own opinion on social media. One user said on X: “The Palace can't just sit there being ‘irritated’ anymore, freaking do something about it.

“This ridiculous notion that ignoring the problem will make it go away is how we got to this point, not just with Harry and Meghan, but with Andrew too. The method DOESN'T WORK.”

“This passivity under the guise of not being seen as ‘stung into reacting’ is how the monarchy could crumble. Not with a roar, but with a whimper.”

They added: “There is a time to let things go, and there is a time to act. This is Charles' time to act. His greatest legacy could be putting limits on his son, if he has the courage to do it.”

Another user agreed: “I couldn’t agree more. This is beyond ridiculous. But I honestly don’t see KCIII doing anything about it and Harry and Meghan know that. Hence their complete disregard for the Sandringham agreement and the recent letter. They don’t care.”

A third one said: “I 100% agree. While never complain, never explain may have worked before social media, it doesn’t work anymore. Times have changed and they cannot control what gets out into the public domain the way they used to. They have to change their agenda.”

Another one commented: “The Palace cannot allow the people to be used as props in the Pretenders cosplaying.”
