Kate's relatable school shoe shopping blunder with George, Charlotte

The Princess of Wales made a common parenting mistake while taking Prince George and Princess Charlotte to buy new school shoes in 2018, reportedly forgetting to bring socks for them to try on.

Back in 2018, Kate was spotted in the Peter Jones department store in London with her two eldest children. A source told Hello! that the Princess forgot to take socks for George and Charlotte to wear when they were trying on their new shoes.

The youngsters had been wearing their summer sandals when they headed out to choose their new footwear. So, just like countless mums before her, Kate had no choice but to borrow socks from the store.

Royal children prepare for new school year

At the time, George and Charlotte had both been pupils at Thomas's School Battersea for several years, while Louis was attending Wilcocks Nursery School in South Kensington. When the family moved to the Windsor estate, all three children started school at Lambrook.

The Wales children all attended as day pupils, where they have access to a wealth of impressive facilities, including the school's own orchard, woodland, a nine-hole golf course, a 25-metre swimming pool, and a cricket pitch.

George's move to Eton College

While Charlotte and Louis still have a few years to go at Lambrook, this school year will look different for the kids as they attend their first day back on September 9 without their big brother George.

The day before Charlotte and Louis' first day back at Lambrook will be a big occasion in the Wales family, as George will head to Eton for his first day of secondary schooling on September 8. After a year of speculation on which school George would attend, the Prince and Princess of Wales made the announcement that they had chosen Eton for their eldest son in June.

Other front-runners were believed to have been his mother's former school of Marlborough College, while William and Kate were also said to have recently been spotted touring Oundle School in Northamptonshire. However, they were reportedly spotted touring Eton with their eldest son back as far back as 2023, fuelling speculation the school was always high on their list of places to send George.

The second-in-line to the throne will step up for the next phase of his education at the £63,000-a-year all-boys school, which was also attended by Prince Harry and 20 Prime Ministers - and is a 12-minute drive from their Forest Lodge home.
