The Prince and Princess of Wales formally met the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, for the first time since her appointment. William and Kate travelled to Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop's official residence, where they held informal talks and William offered 'congratulations' on her new role.
Kate wore a custom Edeline Lee textured midi dress with a black coat, accessorised with a new Daniella Draper Gold Keeper's Heart Trace Chain necklace. The £1,555 piece is said to symbolise 'love and connection', themes that Kate has recently explored in her public work.
During the meeting, the trio discussed Lambeth Palace’s garden and the contribution of churches to their communities, as well as William and Kate’s work through their Royal Foundation. Dame Sarah commented on the green space in central London, and William asked about her familiarity with the palace layout.
After the meeting, the Archbishop said: 'It was a privilege to welcome the Prince and Princess of Wales to Lambeth Palace today. I know we hold the same hope for a better world and I look forward to working together in the years to come.'
Dame Sarah was confirmed as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury at St Paul’s Cathedral last week and made the oath of allegiance to the sovereign. She is the first female Archbishop of Canterbury in the Church’s history, following Justin Welby's resignation over an abuse scandal.
William will represent his father, the King, at Dame Sarah's enthronement ceremony next month at Canterbury Cathedral.
