Princess Catherine once again demonstrated what a real royal looks like, highlighting the enormous gulf between her and Meghan Markle, according to Express reporter Chris Riches. The contrast was evident during the glittering state banquet at Windsor Castle, where Kate joined Prince William as King Charles and Queen Camilla welcomed the Sultan of Oman to the UK.
Class Defined by Dignity and Duty
Riches argues that class can mean dignity, duty, and doing what may be onerous the right way, setting an example for others to follow. He cites Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Mabbutt, 65, who made over 3,000 personal phone calls to elderly, isolated, and vulnerable fans for two hours every day during the Covid lockdown, despite having to shield himself due to Type 1 diabetes.
In contrast, Meghan's PR machine has recently criticised Netflix for "using" her fame to gain viewers for their show The Gentlemen. Rumours weeks ago that she would be offered a role were soon quashed. Harry has also spoken to GQ about wanting to patch up his family rift.
Kate Steals the Show at State Banquet
Kate, 44, stole the show wearing Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara, a £100 million diamond and pearl headpiece commissioned by Queen Mary in 1913 and famously worn by Princess Diana. The state banquet marked the first visit of its kind by an Omani ruler in 44 years, following the late Queen Elizabeth II's welcome of Sultan Qaboos bin Said in March 1982.
Riches notes that Kate's appearance came with no leaking stories about being used by a streaming giant, no TV interviews bemoaning family rifts, and no ridiculously priced scented candles or jam for sale.
Actions Over Words
Meghan, 45, has always wanted the fairytale princess story, and meeting and marrying Harry made that dream a reality for a short time. But being a princess requires showing class, inspiring, showing dignity and leadership, rising above the petty, and not airing dirty linen in public.
Riches states that when Meghan appeared on Oprah Winfrey and accused the Royal Family of racism, she lost that class and the respect of Harry's family. He suggests winning it back through actions rather than words, noting that we hear a lot from Harry and Meghan but see little.
Riches expresses hope that Meghan could show more class, while fearing Harry is so painfully ignorant of the hurt he causes his family with every new interview that he may be living in another universe.
