Former US First Lady Jill Biden has offered a rare glimpse into the personality of the Princess of Wales, describing her as 'unassuming' and 'grounded' in her upcoming memoir. The book, titled 'View from the East Wing', is set for release on 2 June.
In an excerpt shared with People magazine, Biden recounts their first meeting in 2021 during the G7 summit in Cornwall. The two women visited a primary school in Hayle, bonding over their shared interest in early childhood education. 'When Princess Kate and I cooed over rabbits at a primary school in West Cornwall, I found her instantly likable, very unassuming. She made me feel at ease. She seemed so grounded,' Biden wrote.
Biden also revealed advice she gave to the mother-of-three: 'I encouraged her to keep a journal about her experiences. She said she liked to draw and paint, but I said you can never have too many ways to privately express your feelings.'
The pair later co-authored an article for CNN emphasising the importance of early years education. They argued that 'early childhood care and education should be seen as among the defining, strategic issues of our time' and called for a 'fundamental shift' in how societies approach the earliest years of life.
Biden also shares a close bond with Prince Harry, having first met him in 2013 during a reception for wounded warriors in Washington. They later collaborated at the Department of Defense Warrior Games in 2021.
