Kate Middleton 'Left in Tears' After Prince William's 2006 New Year U-turn, Book Claims

In 2006, before their marriage, the Prince and Princess of Wales had planned to spend New Year together. However, according to a book by royal author Katie Nicholl, Kate Middleton was left in tears when Prince William changed his plans at the last minute.

William had promised to join Kate and her family for the celebrations, but instead decided to stay with his own family. He informed her of his U-turn in a phone call on Boxing Day, leaving Kate fearing for the future of their relationship.

Nicholl writes that William had been having second thoughts and consulted his father, Prince Charles, and his grandmother, the Queen. Both advised him not to rush into anything with Kate.

Weeks later, in early 2007, the couple briefly split. The Queen was reportedly disappointed by the breakup. However, the separation was short-lived; they were seen kissing at an army party in Dorset and later attended the Concert for Diana together. Their romance was soon back on, and Kate moved into William's Clarence House flat.

The couple announced their engagement in 2010 and married in April 2011. They now have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
