The Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to relocate from Adelaide Cottage to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom Georgian mansion set within Windsor Great Park. The Grade II-listed red-brick property offers 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside, placing the family just an eight-minute drive from Windsor Castle.
The new home is bordered by Cranbourne Park, an expanse of greenery praised by visitors, and Russel's Plantation, a park and garden featuring a lake. The garden itself faces a large woodland area, providing expansive vistas beyond the private grounds. Nearby amenities include a play park and a social club, which the family may use.
Forest Lodge is also a short distance from Lambrook School, where Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are pupils, making the daily commute shorter than from Adelaide Cottage. Despite the significant increase in size, the Prince and Princess will continue their practice of not employing live-in staff. However, cottages surrounding the property will accommodate employees when needed, maintaining a separation from family life.
The move signals a break with royal tradition, as Forest Lodge has been described as the family's “forever home.” This indicates that the Prince of Wales will not take up residence in Buckingham Palace, reflecting his modern approach to royal life.
Danielle Stacey, HELLO!'s Online Royal Correspondent, commented on the decision: “Upsizing to Forest Lodge allows the family more space and has already been viewed as their 'forever home,' rather than having the children growing up within the walls of a palace. The Prince and Princess of Wales clearly love living in Windsor, the children are settled at Lambrook School nearby, and they will still be close to Windsor Castle for royal functions and engagements.”
