Prince Harry's unusual claim about Meghan Markle has been picked up by royal fans as an old interview has resurfaced. In November 2017, the year before they got married, Harry and Meghan sat down with the BBC for their engagement interview.
In the interview, Harry was asked whether he knew who Meghan was before they were set up on a date by a mutual friend. Harry said he did not know who Meghan was, even though she was an American actress.
Claim Confuses Royal Fans
This claim has confused royal fans, as Harry said in his memoir Spare that his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law, Princess Catherine knew who she was by name.
This has led some to wonder whether Harry knew who Meghan was, especially since his brother William, with whom he was close at the time, seemed to know straight away.
With the video having resurfaced on X, one royal fan said: “I thought W&C are fans of Suits before H even met her. Haven’t they told him about this A-list actress? Lol.”
Someone else wrote: “He'd never heard of her, but in Spare, he says William and Catherine were massive Suits fans.”
Another person commented: “Shaking her head no is a subconscious tell also. She knows he’s lying.”
Spare Memoir Details
While it may have been the case that Harry, 41, did not know about Meghan until he began dating her, the duke did claim in his 2023 memoir Spare that Prince William and Princess Catherine knew who she was.
He wrote in his memoir: "I casually mentioned that there was... a new woman in my life. They surged forward 'Who is she?' 'I'll tell you, but please, please, please, I need you both to keep it a secret.' 'Yes, Harold, yes yes - who is it?' 'She's an actress.' 'Oh?' 'She's American.' 'Oh.' 'On a show called Suits.' Their mouths fell open. They turned to each other. Then Willy turned to me and said: 'F*** off!' 'What?' 'No way.' 'Sorry?' 'Impossible!'"
