Prince Harry and Prince William may not speak anymore, but there was a time when they did get on and even carried out royal engagements together. While the princes are believed to be very different in many ways, they seemed united as working royals by the things they both cared deeply about. This included their love for their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, and their desire to keep her memory alive after she died in a car crash in 1997.
Joint appearance at palace event
This saw William, 44, and Harry, 41, carry out events and engagements in their mother’s memory. This included the launch of a film commissioned by the princes to honour the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death and celebrate her life. The launch, held at the Palace in 2017, was attended by Harry and William.
While it was something they were both heavily involved in, a British columnist at the launch said the event showed the stark difference between the brothers. Writing in The Daily Mail, Sarah Vine said that while William was “eloquent and charming”, Harry was “short-tempered and distracted”.

She said: “About a year before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, I attended a launch at the Palace of a film commissioned by the Princes to honour the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death in 1997.”
Vine continued: “William was eloquent and charming, patient with the assembled press and photographers. Harry was not: he seemed short-tempered and distracted, as if the whole thing was just a massive annoyance.”
She then said that when Harry spoke about his late mother at the event, he “became a different person”. She wrote: “But when talking about his mother, he became a different person: gentle, thoughtful and terribly sad, really quite vulnerable.”
Harry's royal career
While Vine did not have the best impression of Harry from the event, other royal reporters have documented how fun the prince was to work with during his time as a working royal, which ended in 2020 when he stepped down from royal duties.
