Harry 'can never be trusted' with royal engagements, expert says

Prince Harry can “never be trusted” with royal engagements again because of his media appearances and commercial interests, a royal expert has claimed.

Speaking on the Daily Express’ Royals Unscripted podcast, Express columnist Carole Malone told Express royal editor Emily Ferguson that the Duke of Sussex had damaged trust with the Royal Family and risked overshadowing official royal events with his public comments.

Trust Broken Beyond Repair

“But the problem is now he's broken the trust,” Carole said. “No one can trust him out on a job anywhere because we've got the commercial aspect here as well.”

She added: “He can't be a royal again because him and Meghan want to make money.”

Carole also questioned whether Harry could be trusted to avoid discussing family tensions during public appearances and interviews.

Concerns Over Public Comments

“He can't be trusted in front of a camera with a microphone in his face not to do what he just did in this interview,” she said.

The discussion then turned to Harry’s reported comments that there was “enough drama in the world”, with Carole accusing the prince of contributing to tensions surrounding the Royal Family.

“You cause most of it, matey, where the Royal Family is concerned, you cause the drama,” she said.

Calls for Reflection and Apologies

Carole argued that Harry had failed to acknowledge the impact of his own actions, saying he needed to reflect on his role in the ongoing family rift.

She also questioned Harry’s continued calls for apologies from his relatives. “He was still telling people he wanted apologies from the Royal Family for what they'd done to him. What have they done to him?” she said.

Acknowledging that the public might not know everything that had happened behind closed doors, Carole argued that Harry had spent years discussing private family matters publicly while other royals had largely refrained from responding.

Impact on Royal Duties

“Harry spent the last six years trying to put it all out in the open, knowing full well that the Royal Family are completely powerless to respond to anything,” she said. “And that's what I think hurts them the most.”

Carole suggested Prince William could take a firmer approach to protecting the monarchy’s reputation, while arguing that King Charles would be reluctant to allow his relationship with his younger son to deteriorate further.

“Charles will want to placate because he's of an age where he doesn't want not to be speaking to his son again,” she said. “But I think Will is now going to be taking the reins on this.”

Carole argued that the couple’s appearances could draw attention away from the Royal Family’s official business, claiming a recent state visit had received less prominent newspaper coverage than Harry.

“They were expecting front pages on this state visit. They didn't get them. They got inside pages and Harry's on the front of everyone,” she said.
