Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to visit the UK in July for an Invictus Games event, bringing their children Archie and Lilibet for the first time in four years. While a meeting with King Charles is expected, the rift between Harry and his brother Prince William shows no sign of healing.
The brothers have been estranged since before the Sussexes stepped down as senior royals in 2020, with tensions escalating after Harry and Meghan's accusations against the monarchy in their Oprah Winfrey interview, Netflix series, and Harry's memoir Spare. They have not been seen together for years and are believed not to be on speaking terms.
Royal commentator Afua Acheampong-Hagan told the Mirror: 'I don't think they are there yet. I do think it will happen, but not yet. It's baby steps.' Former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond added that the King faces a 'delicate balancing act', as a reconciliation with Harry could upset William.
A palace insider said the Prince and Princess of Wales remain 'deeply hurt' by the Sussexes' comments about being abandoned and mistreated. The last time Meghan was in the UK was for Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, while Archie and Lilibet last visited for the Platinum Jubilee that same year.
