Princess Beatrice is facing renewed pressure as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in the Cotswolds, while her mother Sarah Ferguson is also returning to the UK, according to an opinion piece by Chris Riches.
A difficult year for Beatrice
Beatrice has endured a challenging 12 months, beginning in summer 2025 when newly unearthed emails showed Ferguson remained in contact with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein after she claimed she had cut ties. Her parents subsequently lost their Duke and Duchess of York titles, and her father saw a series of titles, including 'Prince', and military honours stripped, leaving him as plain Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
In January, Beatrice and her younger sister Princess Eugenie were drawn into the scandal following the release of the Epstein Files. These revealed that Ferguson and her daughters flew to the US to meet Epstein after his release from prison.
Marriage strain and royal tensions
According to royal author Andrew Lownie, the revelations about Andrew's friendship with Epstein have allegedly created a 'distance' between Beatrice and her husband, property developer and Italian noble Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 42. The files also showed Ferguson gushing over Epstein, asking the convicted paedophile to "marry me" and calling the child sex offender "the brother I have always wished for."
Beatrice was almost banned from attending Royal Ascot, until King Charles intervened with an olive branch to invite her, though she ultimately did not attend.
A delicate balancing act
Being seen in public with Ferguson in the UK is now described as toxic for Beatrice's image. The arrival of Harry and Meghan in the Cotswolds adds to her difficulties, with Prince William and Princess Catherine reportedly non-plussed to see them back in the country. Beatrice must now walk a careful line with the Sussexes, or risk being seen by royal watchers as having 'sided' with them over the future king and queen.
