Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been spotted enjoying a quiet pub lunch together in the Cotswolds, marking their first joint public appearance since the family returned to the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured at The Falkland Arms in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, a rare public outing together. The couple stopped for a meal while their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, were at school.
Both wore sunglasses as they arrived at the 16th-century pub, with Harry seen looking at a menu board outside. Meghan opted for a casual all-black outfit with white shoes, while Harry wore a Santa Barbara fire department cap.
Meal Details and Local Reception
Inside, Meghan reportedly opted for gluten-free beer-battered haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce for £18.25. Harry had a £17.95 chicken, ham and leek pie served with seasonal greens, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy.
The Royal couple acted like locals, a pub insider told the Sun: “Everyone here gets the royal treatment — it doesn’t matter who you are. We’re lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals.”
Recent Activities and Security Concerns
The outing comes after Meghan had largely stayed out of the public eye following the family’s move back to Britain in August. She was seen for the first time spending the afternoon at an Oxfordshire pub, where she was seen chatting with Ellen DeGeneres and her wife.
Harry, meanwhile, has made a string of public appearances since the move, including attending the WellChild Awards and the Invictus Spirit Gala Dinner and Awards. The Duke also attended a black-tie gala supporting Ukraine before making a brief trip back to the US for engagements in New York.
Meghan has since been seen getting to know the area around the family’s new home. She was recently spotted at The Falkland Arms with close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen and her young son.
The Sussexes’ return to Britain has come as their long-running dispute over security arrangements continues. The issue was brought back into focus after two men, believed to have been working for a European photo agency, were reportedly seen in a white van outside Archie and Lilibet’s school. A spokesman for the couple described their behaviour as “reckless” and “irresponsible”.
No Public Visit to King Charles
Harry and Meghan have not publicly visited King Charles since returning to the UK on August 26, although they are understood to have spoken to him by phone.
A friend of the Sussexes said: “They are enjoying exploring the area including local watering holes. Meghan has been spending a lot of time since their move to the UK making sure the children are settled and working on her As Ever brand.
“When they aren’t working, like most couples they like to spend time together.”
