John Goodman has revealed his surprise after learning that the Prince of Wales is a fan of his 1998 film The Big Lebowski. The actor made the discovery at the London premiere of Digger, which was attended by Prince William and Princess Catherine last week.
Goodman, 74, plays the President of the United States in Digger, which also stars Tom Cruise and Riz Ahmed. Speaking to the Mail, Goodman said of William: "It turns out he is a Lebowski fan. I didn't expect that at all."
A night of Hollywood glamour
During the event, William and Catherine walked alongside Tom Cruise, who held Catherine's hand as they descended the steps towards the screening. Cruise later shared his thoughts on the royal couple's marriage, which has lasted over 15 years.
Speaking on Extra TV, Cruise said: "William did well. I have so much respect for them, they are amazing people. You know, they're amazing people, and how dedicated they are to their country and also what they give to the world. And they're just beautiful people and fun, very funny."
Cruise also praised Catherine, adding: "She's got an incredible sense of humour, very intelligent and fun. Will, way to go, smart choice. Got to give it to William, way to go."
Body language analysis
Despite Cruise's warm words, body language expert Judi James suggested William may not have been as relaxed as he appeared. She told the Express: "There's some hint of tension showing in William's hands that are nearly balled into fists."
James added that Catherine appeared to counter that tension, saying: "That is easily outweighed by Kate's obvious intention to show she's having the best time here. She was even led down the stairs by Tom Cruise, happily holding his hand when it was offered in a gentlemanly gesture."
James suggested the premiere served as "the perfect event for her and William to use as their silent reply" following the release of Earl Spencer's memoir, which made claims about the King after the death of Princess Diana on the same day.
