Glenn Close has sparked health fears after sharing a cryptic life update from her family home in Bozeman, Montana. On Thursday (August 27), the Fatal Attraction star took to Instagram to share a heartfelt video in which she wore a special family heirloom while watching the sun set.
The Oscar nominee was seen beaming to the camera outside her family home. The 79-year-old Hollywood star told her loyal fanbase: "Hi Everyone, I'm home, calming down, wearing my mamma's shirt and letting the wind blow through my white hair and watching the sun go down. I feel blessed. Hi to you all. Bye."
Fans react with concern
In the caption, Close added: "And Pip is right behind me," referencing her beloved Havanese dog. The homely video sent shockwaves through Hollywood with many fearing for her health following the deaths of both Dolly Parton and Tim Curry this week.
One user penned: "That 'bye' gave me CHILLS", as another begged: "Please don't let her be next [crying emoji]" as a third echoed: "Why did that feel so FINAL?" A fourth chimed in with: "When this many stars have died in a short window, even a quiet sunset video starts to feel like a warning."
Recent celebrity deaths
The video came after the death of several celebrities this week. Music icon Dolly Parton passed away on August 25 at the age of 80, followed only 24 hours later by The Rocky Horror Picture Show star. On Thursday (August 27), voice actor Peter Cullen, who lent his voice to Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, died aged 85.
Honorary Oscar announcement
Meanwhile, Close was recently announced as an honorary Oscar winner and will be among the honorees at the 17th Governors Awards, to be held on November 15. The actress has been nominated for multiple competitive Academy Awards and has never won.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors announced on Wednesday, June 10, that Close, Sir Ridley Scott, and animator Floyd Norman will receive Academy Honorary Awards. This year's Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award will go to producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler.
Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor said in a statement: "Throughout her extraordinary body of work, Glenn Close's unparalleled emotional range has brought to life some of the most complex characters in cinema."
During her acting career, Close has been nominated for eight acting Oscars, the most of any living performer without a win. In 2021, while speaking to Pete Davidson for Variety's Actors on Actors, she mused that "it might be cool to never get" an Oscar statuette. She said at the time: "Is it better to be wheeled out in a wheelchair and get the lifetime achievement award? You don't have to make a speech."
