Gemma Owen had a heated clash with her dad on their new reality show, Meet the Owens, which is now streaming on Prime Video. The series follows former England striker Michael Owen as he balances being a dad of four with his punditry career and growing horse racing empire.
Filmed over the course of a year, it features Michael looking back over his years in the spotlight as well as tracking the lives of his four children as they carve out their own path in the world. His youngest child Jessica, 16, wants to become an Olympic showjumping champion while Emily, 18, wants to become the first in the family to go to university. Meanwhile 20-year-old James wants to join the family business, while Gemma, 23, is shown honing her horse riding skills.
Fierce clash in episode two
Gemma will already be a familiar face to many as she appeared on season eight of Love Island back in 2022, making it through to the final and placing second alongside her ex-partner, Luca Bish. She also boasts millions of followers on social media.
All six episodes of the series have been made available today (August 28) on Prime Video, and viewers getting stuck in will witness a particularly fierce clash between Gemma and her famous dad that comes in episode two. As Gemma trains for the upcoming Glorious Goodwood race, she takes out a horse from the family stables, Heavenly Spirit, which was once owned by former football manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Racehorse speed sparks row
Speaking directly to cameras, Michael stresses that Gemma won't be going for a full gallop on the thoroughbred as it could leave his daughter "susceptible to injuries." However, watching on as she rides the horse, Michael sees her speed up and a camera mounted on Gemma herself captures her panicked words: "Is that me, or is that f****** fast?"
"Woah, woah, woah that's way too fast," a horrified Michael says from the sidelines. "Fuming," he adds, as his wife Louise replies: "It did look quick."
"Shall I be the one to b****** her?" Michael asks before Louise admits: "I'm not telling her off." When she finally slows down, Michael accuses her of "speeding" and lets her know that if their resident horse trainer, Hugo Palmer, had been watching she would have been "severely b*******."
Gemma hits back over 'miscommunication'
It sparks a row between the pair as Gemma insists "I didn't do anything wrong," before accusing her dad of poor communication. She hit back: "If anyone told me don't go fast, then I wouldn't." She insisted it "wasn't a gallop", before saying "the communication needs to be better then" amidst her father's protestations.
The cameras then show her walking off in her racing outfit with a bag in hand, and she is heard saying: "I hate him sometimes." She later clarifies to cameras the heated situation was simply down to a "miscommunication". Meet The Owens is now streaming on Prime Video.
