A friend of Sarah Ferguson has insisted the former Duchess of York wants to tell her truth in a revealing book - despite her firm denial that one is currently in the works.
Fergie, 66, "feels she is queen of the comebacks" and is at the centre of a "bidding war" for her story, friend Lizzie Cundy has suggested. Speaking on Storm & Alexis on Channel 5 this week, the broadcaster said that, following Earl Spencer's controversial memoir about his sister Diana, there were "lots of areas" Fergie also wanted to talk about.
Areas she wants to discuss
Lizzie said her longtime friend would touch on Diana's death and Meghan and Harry while claiming there is a "bidding war" ongoing for her story, both in interview and book form.
The socialite told hosts Storm Huntley and Alexis Conran that people would want to "read and hear" a book by the former Duchess. She said: "There are a lot of areas Sarah wants to talk about, from Diana's death, Meghan and Harry, and I have to say - I think people will want to read it and hear it."
Queen of the comebacks
When asked whether an interview or publication could backfire on her as it did her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, she said Fergie feels she is "queen of the comebacks".
She continued: "I think she's learned a lot of lessons from what happened to Andrew. She feels she is queen of the comebacks, and there's a way to revive her career. People like Fergie, the Queen liked Fergie. She was a very different breath of fresh air when she came into the Royal Family."
Lizzie added that people are keen to pay for her story, adding: "There is a bidding war for her story, for her book, as well as for her interview, and she wants to tell it."
Denials and low profile
The Sun, citing publishing sources, reported last week that Fergie was "days away" from signing a book deal following a secret bidding war. The book, the publication reported, was tipped to reveal her thoughts on her ex-husband, her relationship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, King Charles III, and Harry and Meghan.
It was also reported that she believed she could use the book to "set the record straight" and earn money while she lacks other opportunities to do so.
The report prompted strident pushback from her representatives, who rubbished the claims, saying she had "no plans" for a memoir. A spokesperson said: "Sarah Ferguson is not close to signing a multi-million dollar book deal as has been reported. She has no plans to write any tell all memoir."
Fergie has kept an extremely low profile since Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on February 19 this year. When she was photographed at a luxury ski resort in the Austrian Alps in April this year, it had been more than 200 days since she was last seen in public. She last made a public appearance at the Duchess of Kent's funeral in September 2025.
