Emmerdale viewers are calling for Aaron to put a stop to Robert Sugden's scheming after the character stole money from widow Nicola King. The money, originally taken from the late Jimmy King, was being desperately sought by Nicola, who discovered she would not receive a payout following Jimmy's death.
Robert's betrayal in the money plot
Sadie King had enlisted Robert's help to track down the hidden money, but Robert tricked her and kept it for himself. Fans have slammed Robert for potentially keeping the cash while Nicola is left with nothing, and many are hoping Aaron will intervene.
One fan posted: "Come on Aaron sort him out," as another said: "Sort him out, Aaron!" A third viewer wrote: "Celebrating robbing from a widow and leaving her with no money and no life insurance WOW even Aaron looked disgusted."
Aaron's role and Ryan Hawley's tease
Fans are also hoping Aaron will convince Robert to give the money back to Nicola. One post read: "What is with Aaron? We expect nothing less of Robert, but Aaron not telling Robert to give that money to Nicola and tell her about Sadie or trying to cash in on Gabby's business. This isn't Aaron! Poor Nicola has had Jimmy's memory trashed."
Actor Ryan Hawley teased that Robert could be forced to do the right thing by Aaron. He said: "He's certainly more devious in the last couple of weeks and months, and scheming, and underhand, which can be more fun to play. So it's been a lot of fun lately. Aaron anchors Robert with the moral compass, with a more a kind of more everyday man moral compass. I think it's good for him to have to kind of keep him in check. Aaron being Aaron, kind of dissuades Robert from going too far, maybe, with it."
Ryan Hawley on Robert and Sadie
Ryan also discussed Robert and Sadie's relationship after their recent scheming. He shared: "It's been so interesting picking up from where another actor's portrayal of the character that I play left off. I've absolutely loved working with Sadie/Patsy [Kensit]. She's been a lot of fun. We've had a great time together on set and in our scenes. Their relationship, it was just weird because you're kind of having to remember someone else's memories, almost, and think about someone else's relationship and pretend it was your own. So that's been a bit of a challenge, but we've both enjoyed it."
Ryan hopes the show continues to put the Sugdens front and centre. He said: "It's more to do, it's more things, more possible storylines, more people to work with. Not that I don't like working with the people I regularly work with, but it's just more things going on, and that's great 'cause it means you're busy, with more challenges, and more fun."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
