Emmerdale fans are convinced that Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) are heading for a heartbreaking split. The couple, who began their relationship over Christmas 2024, have faced numerous challenges, including Jacob's grief over his mother Leyla Harding's death in the limo crash last year.
Relationship Struggles
After a brief separation, Jacob and Sarah reconciled, and Jacob proposed unexpectedly, which Sarah gladly accepted. They planned a secret Christmas Eve registry office wedding, but it was derailed when they discovered Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) had just married Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton). They tied the knot shortly afterwards and welcomed their daughter Leyla through surrogacy, months ahead of schedule.
However, the couple remains unaware that Leyla is not their biological daughter. She is the daughter of Sarah's grandmother, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who had a one-night stand with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) before acting as Sarah's surrogate.
Charity's Secret
Charity's decision to keep this secret has had devastating consequences. After months of blackmail by Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), Charity suffered a horrific sexual assault in harrowing scenes.
Now, some viewers believe Sarah and Jacob could break up once they discover the truth about Leyla's parentage. One viewer asked on a Facebook fan page: "Prediction time... which current relationship won't make it to Christmas?" Another responded: "Sarah and Jacob," with a fellow fan adding: "I don't think they'll survive finding out Leyla isn't their child." A third commented: "I reckon the baby Leyla storyline will break them!"
Upcoming Confrontation
Next week, Charity resolves to stop living in fear and summons Dr Todd to Jacobs Fold to confront her. As tempers rise, Charity demands Todd acknowledge the truth, but the doctor responds with a chilling threat to reveal the secret about Leyla's parentage to Sarah. Could Charity's closely-guarded secret be exposed sooner than anticipated?
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
