Emma Thompson's family have shared their heartbreak as her mother, esteemed actor Phyllida Law, died aged 94. Law's death was confirmed by her manager, Jacky Leggo, who said she "died supremely peacefully at home, surrounded by all of her family".

Thompson's actor daughter Gaia Wise, 26, shared a tribute to her grandmother on her Instagram Story, writing "Rest well my Queen," alongside a red love heart emoji.
Career highlights
Law regularly appeared opposite her daughters Emma and Sophie in films in the 1980s and 1990s, including Peter's Friends (1992), directed by Thompson's then-husband Kenneth Branagh, as well as Branagh's version of Much Ado About Nothing (1993), also starring Thompson. She also appeared alongside Thompson in Alan Rickman's directorial debut The Winter Guest in 1997, with the pair playing a mother and a daughter. Other film credits include a voice role in the 2005 fantasy film Nanny McPhee, written by and starring Thompson.
