EastEnders star Toby-Alexander Smith has appeared to confirm his exit from the BBC One soap after his character Gray Atkins' explosive return. The actor shared a picture of himself in character on Instagram with the caption: "Well Walford, it’s been wild…again @bbceastenders" accompanied by an eyes emoji.
Gray's Return and Ian Beale's Prison Ordeal
Gray recently made a dramatic comeback to Walford, and his return has been intertwined with Ian Beale's prison storyline. Ian, played by Adam Woodyatt, was sentenced to eight months in prison for driving under the influence and knocking down Chelsea Fox's young son Jordan, whose father is Gray. Recent episodes have shown Ian struggling to adjust to prison life, especially when coming face-to-face with Gray.
Gray has been manipulating Ian to secure his own prison protection. In Thursday's episode, Gray threatened Ian with a bladed weapon, and after a struggle, Gray was stabbed. Later, Chelsea confronted Gray in hospital, seemingly bringing a conclusion to the villain's storyline.

Gray's History in Walford
Gray Atkins, who was in Albert Square from 2019 to 2022, killed three people during his time on the show: Chantelle Atkins, Kush Kazemi, and Tina Carter. He has been in HMP Woodhurst since his crimes came to light in 2022, where he has now been joined by Ian. It remains to be seen if this is the last of Gray.
