EastEnders star Charlie Suff 'gutted' over Johnny Carter axe

EastEnders star Charlie Suff has spoken candidly about his disappointment after learning he has been axed from the show as Johnny Carter. The actor told Radio Times that his departure will be part of a dramatic autumn storyline.

Speaking about the upcoming scenes, Suff said: 'There's a lot in store for the guys. It's very dramatic. It's all part of the big autumn drama, and yeah, there's lots in store for the guys.'

Charlie Suff admits he is 'gutting' over exit

Despite insisting it is an honour to bow out with the Carter family, Suff admitted he would have preferred to stay longer with the BBC One soap. 'It's gutting,' he said. 'I absolutely love being a part of the show. I love everyone in it. I love the crew. I love the team. It's been an amazing thing to be part of.'

The news follows Kellie Bright's confirmation that she is leaving her role as Linda Carter. In a video message to fans, Bright said: 'I just wanted to do a little thank you message to everyone that sent some love to Linda's way when you heard about the announcement of me leaving. It really means so much and I just wanted to acknowledge it and say thank you for your lovely comments and messages.'

Producer promises 'jaw-dropping' Carter reunion

Executive producer Ben Wadey praised Bright, saying: 'I am quite close to Kellie. She is such a phenomenal actor. Linda Carter is one of the all time great EastEnders characters. So losing her is such a big moment to the show and we wanted to make sure we see Linda at her best in her final few months.'

Wadey also confirmed a family reunion before the Carters bow out, saying: 'We will be welcoming Lee and Nancy back for a period in a story where I guarantee your jaws will drop when you see it.'

Linda, who is part of Max Branning's (Jake Wood) new year storyline, is not leaving until 2027. It remains unclear whether Johnny will leave with her or depart earlier. The Carter clan are currently at the centre of drama, following Nancy Carter's (Maddy Hill) return and her revelation that her baby's father is her brother Lee (Danny Hatchard).
