Earl Charles Spencer's book "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister" was released a week ago, yet the promotion continues. Royal reporter Jasmine Carey argues his actions do not match his words.
Book Promotion Continues After Release
The Earl presented the book as his final public statement about his sister, who died 29 years ago. However, since its release, he has appeared in multiple interviews. He was introduced on ITV's Lorraine as Diana's brother, with viewers told it was his only live interview about the book—a claim that proved false.
In New York this week, he gave a live interview with journalist Tina Brown, speaking more about the book and its claims. He also appeared on CNN with Kaitlan Collins. Before the book's release, he gave a televised chat with the BBC and a sit-down interview with People magazine.
Questions Over Profit From Diana's Memory
The Earl previously said he would never profit from Diana. In a 1998 interview, he stated: "Can you imagine anybody making a profit out of their brother or sister's death? I mean it's so low it's inconceivable … I'll never profit from Diana's death."
Carey questions what he will do with the book's profits and why he promotes it so heavily. She notes heavy promotion often aims to maximise sales, which could show the Earl in a bad light. While his love for his sister is undeniable, she concludes that some actions and words just don't match up.
