Two people have been killed and dozens injured after a shooting broke out at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early on Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred at around 1.25am on October 4, 2026, while Dooly County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) deputies were on patrol at a neighborhood block party. Shots were fired from the 900 block of Pine Street, and deputies responding to the area discovered multiple people with gunshot wounds. Two additional victims were found in the 600 block of Pine Street and were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Around 35 injured, 25 hospitalised
Approximately 35 people were injured in the incident, with about 25 of them requiring hospital treatment. It is believed that around 1,000 people were present at the large block party. Victims were taken to several regional hospitals for treatment.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading the investigation after the DCSO requested assistance. In a statement, the GBI said: "The GBI is investigating a shooting in Vienna, GA, that left two people dead and 35 people injured. The Dooly County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) requested the GBI to assist with the investigation."
Victims identified and investigation ongoing
Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls confirmed the two deceased victims are a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. The bodies will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where autopsies will be conducted.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said shots were fired at at least 50 people in at least two locations about a block apart. No information has yet been released about the suspect or suspects or about a potential motive behind the shooting. The GBI stated: "This investigation is active and ongoing."
