Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt Reveals Pregnancy Plot Twist in Final Film

Joanne Froggatt, best known for playing Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, has let slip a major spoiler about the upcoming final film. Appearing on The One Show, she revealed that her character is pregnant in the movie, which is set for release on 12 September 2025.

Speaking to hosts Gethin Jones and Alex Scott, Froggatt said: 'Look, I think I can say Anna, my character, is pregnant because I was pregnant when we were filming and there's been pictures out there, so that's one spoiler.' She joked that she 'wrote my own storyline there.'

The actress, who has played Anna since the series began in 2010, also reflected on saying goodbye to the franchise. 'This really is the third and final, so this really is goodbye. It's going to be emotional, but all good things must come to an end, I suppose,' she said.

The final film, titled Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, was confirmed last year after Imelda Staunton hinted at its development. A poster released on Instagram shows Lady Mary Crawley at Highclere Castle, sparking mixed reactions from fans, with some calling for prequels or a new series.
