Delta Goodrem sits out Strictly due to rib injury

Delta Goodrem says she is “moving with the tides of it all” as she reflects on her Strictly Come Dancing journey so far.

The 41-year-old has been forced to pull out of this week’s show after she sustained a painful rib injury during training.

Focus on the dancing dream

Speaking to The Standard, the Australian actor-turned-singer said she is taking each week as it comes, with every dance bringing with it its own challenges but she is relishing every moment.

Her partner, Kai Widdrington, agreed by saying that Goodrem is “putting everything aside” to focus on her dancing dreams.

“Delta's a dream student to have. She comes to work every day amongst everything else that's going on in her life because she's the busiest woman in the world. “She puts it all aside and wants to learn to dance. She's got a million things going on but you are always positive.”

A passion for dancing

Goodrem, who is a favourite to win, explained that she has always wanted to spend more time dancing, a skill which she has a “passion” for.

Goodrem, a former coach on The Voice Australia, said: “I was always coaching people, on their singing and their performances. “And now I feel like the student in this space where I've always had such a passion for dancing, which I've shared with Kai throughout, that I really love.”

She explained that she feels so grateful to be learning new dancing skills everyday, all whilst being “surrounded by music”.

Planet hopping in one year

Asked about doing Strictly and Eurovision all in the space of one year, Goodrem laughed: “Both worlds have similarities, but at the same time they are their own universes. Different planets.

“I'm planet hopping in one year,” she said, before adding: “I would never have predicted in one year to do this, but I figure I may as well do it all in the one year. ”

Goodrem and Widdrington will receive a bye through to next week “when it is hoped they will be able to dance again”, the BBC said.

Statement from Goodrem

The news was announced via It Takes Two host Ellie Taylor, who read out a statement from Goodrem, who was supposed to portray Olivia Newton-John as her icon of choice.

“I'm absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won't be able to dance on Strictly this week,” the statement began.

“I've been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking – especially after the high of Saturday night.

“I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I'm going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I'll be back on that dancefloor very soon.”
