A rare mistake in the Court Circular has raised concerns about Queen Elizabeth II's cousin, Princess Alexandra. The oldest female royal, who will turn 90 on Christmas Day this year, was originally expected to attend a concert in memory of her late sister-in-law, Katharine, Duchess of Kent; however, she had to pull out at the last minute.
Official record error
According to the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, the Princess "attended a performance by students and alumni of Future Talent celebrating the legacy of the charity’s co-founder [Katharine]' at Sinfonia Smith Square in Westminster on Sunday." However, it has since emerged that she was not able to attend the concert.
"The Princess, unfortunately, had to pull out at the last moment," a source told Richard Eden at the Daily Mail.
Memorial concert attendance
Several members of the Royal Family gathered for an event to pay tribute to the late Duchess of Kent in London on Sunday evening. The late royal's husband, the Duke of Kent, 90, was joined by his brother, Prince Michael of Kent, 84.
Also in attendance for the event at Sinfonia Smith Square were all three of the Duchess’s children, Lady Helen Taylor, the Earl of St Andrews and Lord Nicholas Windsor, as well as granddaughters, Lady Marina Windsor and Lady Amelia Windsor. The Prince and Princess of Kent's son, Lord Frederick Windsor, was also in attendance with his wife, Sophie Winkleman.
Future Talent charity event
The concert, which was hosted by Alexander Armstrong, was organised by Future Talent. The charity was co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to support gifted young musicians from low-income backgrounds. The evening included performances by more than 40 young musicians and alumni, including the Future Talent Orchestra.
Princess Alexandra has only made a handful of appearances in recent years and is often seen being assisted by a wheelchair or other family members. The Princess was born in London on Christmas Day in 1936 as the second child of the Duke and Duchess of Kent. She is now the eldest female member of the Royal Family and the second-eldest overall behind her brother, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent.
