Corrie's Daniel and Sinead reunite 7 years after death

Former Coronation Street co-stars Rob Mallard and Katie McGlynn have reunited in real life, seven years after their characters were torn apart in some of the soap's most heartbreaking scenes.

On-screen couple

Mallard, from Oldham, and McGlynn, from Rochdale, won praise for their roles as newlyweds Daniel and Sinead Osbourne, who were separated by Sinead's cervical cancer diagnosis, discovered after she fell pregnant with their son, Bertie.

Bertie was born on-screen in January 2019, induced at six months so Sinead could begin radiotherapy as soon as possible.

Heartbreaking storyline

Later, Sinead learned her cancer had returned and hosted an early first birthday party for Bertie to be present for the milestone. However, the event was overshadowed when she received news that chemotherapy had not worked and she had only weeks to live.

In October 2019, just weeks after their wedding, Sinead died at home with Daniel and baby Bertie.

Reunion

Almost seven years later, Katie and Rob, who have remained friends off-screen, reunited. Katie shared selfies on Instagram, one showing the pair smiling and another with Rob kissing her head.

"Sinead and Daniel reunited… I've missed my onscreen hubby," she wrote, adding: "So good to finally catch up @rob.mallard #reunion #corrie #backtogether #twopeasinapod."

Fans reacted with delight, with comments like "Ayyyy I've missed this duo," "Omg I ADORE this!!!" and "The reunion we never thought we needed." Another wrote: "Forever my fav corrie couple of all time."
