Coronation Street fans are convinced Gary Windass is heading for prison after Sunday's explosive episode ended with him at the police station, ready to tell DS Lisa Swain "the truth".
Gary has been caught in a web of deceit since helping ex-girlfriend Sarah Platt cover up the murder of Theo Silverton. Sarah struck Theo with a metal pipe, causing him to fall from scaffolding to his death, and then called Gary in a panic. He agreed to help hide the crime, but Sarah later confessed to the police, leaving Gary's name out of it.
Kit's threat
However, police officer Kit Green, who is in a relationship with Sarah, knows Gary was involved. He has been trying to use Gary's involvement to secure a lighter sentence for Sarah. After obtaining phone evidence, Kit threatened Gary, demanding he turn himself in or face the consequences. He warned: "Confess or you're going away for a long, long time."
On Sunday's episode, Gary sought legal advice from Adam Barlow, who encouraged him to come clean. Meanwhile, Bethany Platt visited Sarah in prison and told her about Kit's plan. Sarah then contacted Kit and demanded he drop it, but an annoyed Kit vowed to tell Gary the latest update.
Cliffhanger
The episode ended with Gary at the police station, telling DS Swain he wanted to "tell the truth". It remains unclear what Gary will say and how it will affect Sarah or Kit, who is unaware of Gary's move.
Fans took to social media to express their frustration. One wrote: "If Gary goes down I hope he drags Kit down with him - It’s not fair on Gary." Another said: "If Gary gets punished for Sarah’s crime I’m going to be fuming, it would be so s**t..." A third added: "Oh Gary. I really hope this doesn't tie in with Jake having a big storyline coming up. We don't need another kid going off the rails because their dad is in prison. We don't need another kid going off the rails full stop. #Corrie."
Coronation Street airs tonight, Sunday 9 August, at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
