Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK, leaving their life in California behind. The couple departed the UK in January 2020 after deciding not to continue as working royals. They had a meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II, during which the then-monarch forbade them from having a “half-in, half-out” role.
Sussexes' US ventures and return
The Sussexes attempted to make it big in the US, embarking on deals with Netflix and Spotify, which reportedly encountered difficulties. Now, Harry and Meghan are understood to be living somewhere in the Cotswolds, with their precise location kept private.
They leave behind celebrity friends in America, one of whom, former model Kelly McKee Zajfen, posted photos of the duke and duchess with her young son this week.
Clooney friendship details
Actor George Clooney and his wife Amal attended the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018, later attending a private party at Frogmore House. It is also thought that Harry and Meghan visited George and Amal’s holiday home in Italy.
According to an ally of the Sussexes, writer Omid Scobie, George and Harry have a “shared passion for motorcycles” and have played basketball together.
Friendship fizzles out
It is believed that the friendship has now fizzled out, with sources having told RadarOnline.com that George and Amal deliberately distanced themselves from the Sussexes because they privately view the situation as the “Sussex circus”. It is also thought that Clooney is closer to the King nowadays.
He recently said of the monarch at an event at Buckingham Palace: “I am very proud to be here in support of the King, who was just in my country and performed rather well.”
Previously, George told the Mail in 2019 that he and Amal had met with Harry and Meghan for dinners. “We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you're friends with anybody,” he said. “They’re just really nice, fun, kind people. They’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents.”
Clooney also claimed that media scrutiny of Meghan was “a little unjust” and “unfair”. He then described her as a “really kind and smart and intelligent young woman”.
