Canada has spent more money to protect Prince Harry than on any other well-known figure during the same period, according to newly released documents obtained by CBC News.
Security costs exceed previous figures
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police spent at least £403,383 ($539,575) to provide security when Prince Harry travelled to Canada for the Invictus Games in February 2025 and during the early days of his relationship with Meghan Markle. The 41-year-old has made various visits to Canada over the years.
The latest document reveals that his security costs were much higher than the £249,761 ($334,337) initially revealed by the RCMP in 2021.
Part of a larger security program
Protecting Prince Harry and, later, Meghan too accounted for around 10% of the over £3.8 million ($5.2 million) spent during that period to provide security for more than 100 internationally protected persons who visited Canada.
Recent UK visit security denied
This comes after Harry was recently denied police protection during his most recent visit to the UK. The visit was set to see him joined in his home country by Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but after it was denied, it was announced that Harry would visit on his own.
However, just days later, it was revealed that Meghan, Archie and Lilibet were also in the UK. The Sussexes had also met with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10 — a meeting that saw the monarch reunite with his two youngest grandchildren for the first time since 2022.
It has been reported that Harry could be set to return to the UK in September as he has annually attended the WellChild Awards.
