Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet "should get royal protection", according to veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated back to the UK with their two children in August, and the children started a new life at a British school.
After stepping back from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were no longer automatically eligible for police protection when visiting the UK. The couple had also moved to California, so they made very few visits together, although Harry did travel to his home country on his own a few times for work commitments.
Photographer's View on Royal Protection
Speaking of the ongoing debate over whether the couple should receive police protection now that they are living back in the UK, Arthur Edwards has said he thinks the young royals deserve protection. The photographer has extensive experience with Windsor history, having worked for The Sun since the 1970s.
As well as referring to Archie and Lilibet, now aged seven and five, as "a prince and princess of the House of Windsor", he said: "What were they doing in Montecito going to an American school, when they should be here playing with their cousins?"
"They should be getting to run around Balmoral and Windsor," he added. Mr Edwards then added: "They should get royal protection because if they were kidnapped, there would be uproar."
Security Review Underway
Harry and Meghan are currently undergoing a fresh security review by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) after relocating back to the UK. This will be Meghan's first individual assessment since she stepped back as a working royal.
In his recent GQ interview, Harry was asked why the family moved back to the UK and chose to educate their children in a British school. Harry replied: "Opportunities for the family. Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me. I didn't know how important it was to me.
"I always thought it was going to be something that we would try and do, but now they've been in school for two weeks. They're loving it, and it's just giving them a whole different experience. I'm not criticising American schools."
Family Life in the UK
He also added why he wanted to educate his children at a school in the UK, he added: "But I think for kids at seven and five, to be able to have that comparison and to have two completely different cultural experiences is so important today. But yeah: To be back closer to my family and to be back on UK soil for longer than a few days or a week here or there. It's nice to be back."
The royal also shared that he wanted to show his children "where I grew up". He added: "Wanting… them to have the experiences that I had, the good rather than necessarily the bad, provided real proper serious thinking as to: This is an opportunity, let's do it now."
Little detail is known about Archie and Lilibet's new school here in Britain. The name and location of the school have been deliberately withheld for security reasons.
